The Australian Linguistic Society is the national organization for linguists and linguistics in Australia. Its primary goal is to further interest in and support for linguistics research and teaching in Australia. The Society, established in 1967, publishes the Australian Journal of Linguistics (AJL), a journal of international standing, which includes articles from all areas of linguistics, although having a particular focus on linguistics carried out by Australian linguists or about Australian indigenous languages or Australian English.

The Australian Journal of Linguistics (AJL), the journal of the Australian Linguistic Society, is published twice a year. Tables of contents and abstracts from volume 20 can be found from the AJL homepage on the site of the publisher, Taylor & Francis (Routledge). If the users subscribe to AJL, it should also be possible to view articles from volumes 20 in PDF format on the web; otherwise, they have the option of paying to download a particular article.

This homepage is fairly good for graduate students or professors who are interested in linguistics, but there are no explanations or definitions about basic linguistic terms or theories, which lead to difficulties for non-majoring visitors.

This site provides a huge amount of information about language from trivial words to teaching resources. This site even notifies visitors of schedules for several conferences and lectures. Also, the information which is offered through this site is basic, so anyone can get some knowledge about language and linguistics.

However, it lacks in-depth studies or important theses. Therefore, it will be useful to those beginners who have interest in language and linguistics in general.

SIL International

Founded over 70 years ago, SIL International is a faith-based organization that studies, documents, and assists in developing the world’s lesser-known languages. SIL’s staff shares a Christian commitment to service, academic excellence, and professional engagement through literacy, linguistics, translation, and other academic disciplines. SIL makes its services available to all without regard to religious belief, political ideology, gender, race, or ethnic background. SIL (initially known as the Summer Institute of Linguistics) has grown from a small summer linguistics training program with two students in 1934 to a staff of over 5,000 coming from over 60 countries. SIL’s linguistic investigation exceeds 1,800 languages spoken by over 1.2 billion people in more than 70 countries.

SIL focuses on unwritten languages. People who speak these languages often live in geographic, social, and economic isolation. Studying these languages results in practical help for local people and contributes to the broader knowledge of linguistics, anthropology, and ethnomusicology. SIL publishes its research and widely distributes it to libraries, universities, governments, and international agencies.

The only weakpoint is that there are no explanations or definitions about basic linguistic terms or theories, which leads to difficulties for non-majoring visitors.

Linguistics Association of Great Britain

The LAGB is a leading professional association for academic linguists in Great Britain and welcomes new members. Its scope includes all branches of linguistics--formal or informal, theoretical or descriptive, synchronic or diachronic, social or psychological (or neither), concerned with one language or many. Its members favor a wide range of different theories of language structure, and all theoretical persuasions are welcome. In addition, its main activities are the following: 1) publication of the Journal of Linguistics, a highly respected international journal; 2) an annual conference, which includes an invited overseas speaker, a workshop, a language tutorial, and various specialist sessions, as well as papers reflecting a wide range of views and approaches; 3)
representation of linguistics and linguists in matters such as research funding and quality assessment; and 4) bridging the gap between academic linguistics and language education through the activities of the LAGB Education Committee (EC). The EC organizes linguistics specialists at school sessions at LAGB meetings.

This site offers a lot of information about linguistics. Moreover, it introduces the most active linguists in Great Britain.

Because most resources are papers and theses, there are no explanations for basic terms or theories. In other words, this homepage is good for advanced students who are interested in linguistics.
