This web site is the official homepage of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). It introduces the ACL annual meeting, human language technology conference, Coling, the joint conference of the International Committee on Computational Linguistics and the Association for Computational Linguistics, etc. It also shows some publications, computational linguistics (CL) journals, affiliations, and other linked resources.

Since this web site is linked to a lot of associated linguistics groups, most visitors who are interested in any field of linguistics, especially in computational linguistics, can obtain useful information about this huge association. Visitors can order publications on this site, and they can download CL journals in linked web sites. ACL anthology and archives are also linked to this homepage. Particularly, this web site deals with various conferences for computational linguistics; the provided information is quite useful and valuable. It provides its history about linguistics conferences which were held in Europe, Asia, and so on.

Although this web site provides precious information about the Association for Computational Linguistics, it does not represent any basic, introductory knowledge about linguistics itself. Therefore, visitors should not expect to gather any introductory information about linguistics in this web site.

English Linguistics->Computational Linguistics->Conference

GURT 2004 is sponsored by the Linguistics Department at Georgetown University. GURT 2004 includes both invited presentations and submitted papers, focusing on topics in syntax, semantics, and computational linguistics, as pursued from a comparative or cross-linguistic perspective.

There will be a special focus on the following areas:
• The syntax and semantics of clause types
• Syntactic variation across varieties of English
• The internal structure of the noun phrase
• Negation, negative polarity, and negative concord
• Tense and aspect in formal and/or computational semantics
• Microvariation in the left periphery of the clause
• Linguistic typology for machine translation

This conference also provides the 3-hour tutorial which introduces computational tools for manual and automatic annotation of linguistic data and exploration of linguistic hypotheses. No additional fee for this event, but registration is required.
