BAAP is the professional organisation for phoneticians in the British Isles. Its members are involved in research in phonetics, in teaching phonetics in higher education, and in the application of phonetic knowledge in areas such as speech and language therapy, speech technology and forensic science.
The Association holds a regular Colloquium, currently every two years. This provides an opportunity for members and invited participants to meet, present their research, and discuss issues of concern to the academic community.

This is a unique website of George Mason University that archives a large set of English speech accents from a variety of language backgrounds. Both native and non-native speakers of English from many different regions read the same English paragraph, and their productions are carefully recorded. This site is frequently updated; currently 740 samples are archived.

For each sample, the website provides the speaker's demographic information, a phonetic transcription of the sample, a set of the speaker's phonological generalizations, a link to a map showing the speaker's place of birth, and a link to the Ethnologue language database. Users may listen to the sample. Thus, this website allows users to compare the demographic and linguistic backgrounds of the speakers and to investigate their accents effectively. In addition, users may post their own recordings.

This site is constructed as a teaching tool and as a research tool. Phoneticians and phonologists who do research on speech accent and who do phonetic transcriptions will particularly find this website useful. Moreover, ESL teachers and students will also find it useful.

This web site provides information for the Mouton Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology Project. This project presents introductory courses for phonetic and phonological topics with multimedia.

This project is formed by CD-ROM and students can purchase this and learn linguistic topics. Its purpose is to replace face-to-face teaching and to provide basic knowledge for both phonetics and phonology. First of all, in this web site, authors represent general information about the contents provided by the project. The Phonetics topics include auditory, acoustic, and articulatory phonetics. The Phonology module covers phonemes, distinctive features, optimality theory, etc. Moreover, this web site deals with three versions of demos, so visitors can experience the project. Since it also shows some screen shots of the program, visitors can directly explore the contents of the CD-ROM. In this web site, the publisher and the linguistic engineering team who completed this project are also introduced.

This project can be useful for many students who are interested in phonetics and phonology. However, the very basic, introductory knowledge provided by the project CD will not satisfy advanced students.

This is the official website of the Center for Spoken Language Understanding (CSLU) at Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology. CSLU is an active research center that is commited to advanced spoken language technologies and to educate a workforce who can build and use speech technology.

This website offers a great deal of information about what CSLU is and does. Its current and past projects, publications, education programs, and much more can be found on the website. More importantly, the sites provide visitors with learning experiences related to language technologies. 'CSLU Toolkit' and 'Demos' are especially worth trying. For example, the spectrogram reading tutorial (http://speech.bme.ogi.edu/tutordemos/SpectrogramReading/spectrogram_reading.html) will definitely be useful for those who teach and learn how to read spectrograms.

This site is useful for phoneticians and phonologists and engineers particularly interested in speech technologies. Lecturers of phonetics classes will also find it useful.

This is the official website of the Department of Phonetics & Linguistics at the University College of London. As the name of the department suggests, the department is particularly committed to the study of speech sound. Their research is mainly centered on phonetics and includes acquisition of speech, speech perception, speech synthesis, and more.

The website provides basic information about the department such as faculty interests, degree requirements, and so forth. More interestingly, the site has a Web Tutorials menu, where visitors can find several online lectures about phonetics. IPA fonts, softwares, and many articles on phonetics are also downloadable.

This site will be useful for (prospective) graduate students who are interested in phonetics and speech technologies.
