¡°Philippine Literature Portal¡± describes itself as ¡°an online resources center for Filipino Writers and Readers.¡± It is a website created as a joint project between the UP Institute of Creative Writing and the National Commissin for Culture and Arts. Its primary goal is ¡°to disseminate Philippine literature online by providing a database of author¡¯s profiles and their works.¡± The user can find links to various literary genres on the top side of the website, such as ¡°Poetry,¡± ¡°Fiction,¡± ¡°Drama,¡± ¡°Non-fiction,¡± ¡°Children¡¯s Literature,¡± ¡°Criticism,¡± and ¡°Folk Literature,¡± etc. By choosing the category of interest, the user will find the respective authors of that genre listed in alphabetical order, with the title of their works written underneath them. The full text of each work can be read directly on the computer screen with a simple click. Many of the literary works are written in Filipino, however, so they might not be so accessible to the average reader.

The website also has features such as ¡°Writers Market¡± (where various job offers are posted for those who are interested) and ¡°News and Events¡± (where details on upcoming activities and workshops, as well as call for papers are posted). These all aim to stimulate the writer/reader¡¯s interest, so that they will find the motivation to participate in the Filipino literary atmosphere in whatever way they can.

Quarterly Literary Review Singapore

English Literature->Journals

This is the official website for the Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, otherwise known as QLRS in short. It is an Internet literary journal which promotes the literary arts in Singapore by introducing submitted poetry, short stories, essays, and criticism etc. approximately four times a year—in January, April, July, and October. In their mission statement they write that they aim ¡°to stimulate the feedback mechanisms in the literary scene, and to develop Singaporean writers to international standards.¡± Their ultimate goal is to help these selected writers improve their writing so that their work will be acknowledged worldwide.

The website itself is easy to navigate. On the left column there are links where the user can choose a particular issue and then the literary genre he/she is interested in. There are a total of 247 poems, 83 short stories, 38 essays, 70 literary critiques, and also various other reading material, such as interviews and letters written by readers, etc. All of the writing is written in English, and each submission includes a brief introduction of the writer as well.

For those who are interested in not only reading other¡¯s works but also publishing their own, QLRS could be a great opportunity. In the submissions policy, it states that anyone can submit their literary endeavors to the journal, heedless of their national descent. QLRS does explicitly explain, however, that they are ¡°keen on writing with Singapore relevance.¡±

poetry billboard

¡°the poetry billboard¡± was first created by Alvin Pang in the year 1996, and features a selection of new and upcoming Singaporean poets and their works on the Internet. The current version of the website is the third edition, and its simple design and easy-to-follow user interface makes it extremely user-friendly. With just a click of the mouse, the user can read over 60 poems written by more than 40 poets from Singapore. While some are as short as 4-5 lines, others consist of over one hundred; themes, on the other hand, range from issues of love, family, memory to that of loss, solitude, and war. Such a variety of poems is bound to bring forth a myriad of reactions, and will hopefully be an exciting experience to those who are interested in poetry in general and/or those who are specifically interested in the literary atmosphere of Singapore.

The website also provides critical essays and articles related to poetry. If you go to the section entitled ¡°related resources,¡± you can find what others have to say about the poets and poetry introduced on this website. There are also additional links to other affiliated websites and online poetry collections for further perusal. Comments and suggestions on the readings can be sent in by sending a message via the sub-category ¡°your voice.¡±
