English Literature->Poetry->By period->English Renaissance(1500-1640)

This website was created and edited by Risa Stephanie Bear at the University of Oregon. This site is an effort to make available online works printed in English between the years 1477, when Caxton began printing and 1799, the date of the first edition of Wordsworth and Coleridge¡¯s collaboration on a new kind of poetry. Namely, the site is an extensive online repository of literary works printed prior to the Romantic era. Accordingly, online texts are available. It is also possible to access the PDF file version of every item. Sorted by authors alphabetically, this site is very easy to search. Moreover, there is a search engine for visitors to quickly locate particular words or phrases. This site offers the earliest editions of works which contain spellings and typography in use at the time of first printing, while many other libraries do not have access to such editions. Thus, it is useful for students to spend a little time experiencing some of the context of the contemporary reading experience.
