Connotations is an on-line journal for the field of English Literature (from the Middle English period to the present). This is an international journal and it focuses on semantic and stylistic energy of language of literature in a historical perspective. It tries to show different approaches in studies. In this journal, there are issues and for each issue, there are articles and a forum for discussion. If you are interested in this forum, please click "The Connotations Society for Critical Debate".

The lastest volume is the one of December 2006[accessed: January 2007]. If you click "What's New" you can read the articles on this volume. The linking part shows the names of author and the title, and published date and page in the volume. And if you click "Contents of all published Volumes," you can see all past volumes on-line. However, some of the articles are not on-line but just gives its archive information.

The interesting section is "Selected Debates." It divides articles according to its theme. For example, there is a theme such as "The Last Moments of Hamlet," and there are articles like these: Brown's "Multiplicity of Meaning in the Last Moments of Hamlet", Dieter's "Hamlet's Last Moments: A Note on John Russell Brown", Holger's "Hamlet and After", and so on.

Especially for Shakespeare, there is an independent section, "Shakespeare," and here, the articles are divided according to the plays.
